Erin Entrada Kelly’s novel Hello Universe will be transformed into a live-action family film by Netflix and Forest Whitaker. Written by Filipina American children’s literature author Kelly, Hello Universe is a 2018 Newbury Award winner and New York Times bestselling novel.

The story centers on a timid boy who lands in a bottom of a well after being bullied. His two friends; a self-proclaimed psychic and unknowing crush team up to find him. The story is told from four intertwining points of view – two boys and two girls.

Playwright and screenwriter Michael Golamco (Always Be My Maybe) will adapt the book with Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi (Fruitvale Station) of Significant Productions will produce.
